"Have you put this on yet?"
There's a telling silence and James sighs.
"You know Pomfrey says you have to apply it within 48 hours of a transformation."
There's a muttered grumble from under the pile of the covers and James cups a hand around his ear in a highly exaggerated fashion.
"Sorry, what was that? I couldn't hear through the mountain of bedding you're sulking under."

“Even if I have something to talk about, what makes you think it’ll be with you? We aren’t even friends, Wolf.”
“Yeah?” he replied, bending over by his waist such that his face hovered over Barty’s. He revelled in the way Barty’s pupils dilated at the sudden approach. “We’re more than friends, aren’t we? I’m your wolf, you’re my dog…” He trailed off, smiling down at the other who was still staring at him with a wide-eyed gaze.
The surprise was soon masked over into a smirk - Barty’s signature smirk- and he pushed himself up with a propped elbow. Remus leaned back with bated breath, aware that their sudden proximity had sent his heart hammering against his chest, and he watched the other’s lids flutter as he gazed back at him.

And Regulus feels like someone dumped a bucket of ice water onto him. In an attempt to humiliate him or to freeze him to death. He thinks it’s both. He almost didn’t want to believe it, like if he tried hard enough, he could just pretend this was all a bad dream. That he would wake up in his bed and James would be there to soothe his heartache and tears with love.
He swallows down a lump before saying quietly, “I’ll fix some supper.”

The days leading up to Barty’s birthday were an odd mix of nearly manic attempts at connecting with his boyfriend, Evan, and somber spells of staring out into the void.
When the clock ticked over to his 20th birthday, magic would reveal the name of Barty’s soulmate. Stamped on the inside of his left wrist. He was dreading it, because he knew it wasn’t going to be the right name.
It wouldn’t matter. They’d spent over a year together since someone else’s name had shown up on Evan’s wrist. Whatever pillock fate had saddled Barty with wasn’t going to come between them.
Barty scratched at the skin on his wrist, brow furrowed, glaring at it. The whole soulmates lark was fucking bollocks.

When Remus Lupin sees Regulus Black in a gay bar, he can't believe his eyes. Never in a million years would he have believed, that the upright and proper heir to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, would be here of all places. For years Regulus has stood by, whilst the rest of the Black family made his brother's life a living hell.
Remus should turn and walk away. Whatever mistake Regulus is about to make tonight has nothing to do with him. It doesn't. He should just go on his merry way and forget he ever saw him.
But to the wolf, Regulus looks like a meal that he cannot refuse and Remus's feet move before his brain can catch up to what he's doing.
After all, he's never been particularly good at doing what he should do.
