Summary
Bilbo Baggins had met Thorin Oakenshild long before Gandalf's meeting. Several years ago, Thorin had visited the Shire as a traveling blacksmith. When Bilbo enlisted his help, a friendship was built. It grew stronger as the months passed. Due to extenuating circumstances, Thorin helped Bilbo through his heat, though Bilbo made it clear that he wasn't expecting anything more than that. Eventually Thorin returned back home, leaving more than just fond memories for Bilbo.
Now Bilbo was a single Omega parent of four little fauntlings, and he couldn't have been any more content with his life. Sure, raising four little rambunctious sons was a lot of work when you were by yourself, but Bilbo was managing just fine, thank you. That was going to change when Gandalf arrived, bringing with him adventures, dwarves, and Thorin Oakenshield.
Not only did Bilbo have to decide how to tell Thorin that he was the father of four boys, but he also had to decide whether an adventure was worth the risk to his and his sons' lives. His sons deserved to know their father, and Thorin deserved to know his sons, but was it worth the uncertainty that none of them may survive this dangerous adventure?

Summary
Bilbo Baggins was banished by Thorin Oakenshield in the throes of gold sickness for the theft of the Arkenstone. When the Battle ends and Thorin apologizes for his actions, he's still firm in his decision to keep the hobbit banished from Erebor, to never return. Never mind that they had fallen in love and dreamed of a future together already, never mind that Bilbo saved them all.
He leaves with a heavy heart but then those pesky hobbit secrets crop up on him and he, much to his dismay, realizes he's headed home with an unexpected addition. And Bilbo decides that the dwarf king really doesn't need to know about such a thing, for his sake and that of his future child. Hobbit secrets would stay in the Shire, thank you very much.

Summary
Gandalf has two plots in mind as he orchestrates the quest against Smaug. Giving Thranduil an old pain in his arse back, and injecting some new, Hobbitish blood into the Dwarven population. He knows perfectly well when he presents Bilbo Baggins to Thorin Oakenshield, King Under the Mountain, that the two of them are destined to be bondmates. What sort of wizard do you take him for?
After all, Merciadoc, when in doubt, always follow your nose.

Fíli and Kíli have an uncle Thorin. Frodo Baggins has a dad called Thorin. It is not a common name. Bilbo thinks he's married to just a blacksmith. Fíli and Kíli think they're the only heirs to the throne. Gandalf thinks it's high time Erebor was reclaimed.
What does Thorin think??? Thorin thinks he should have banned Ori from traveling once he became pregnant.

Bilbo's grey eyes dart to Thorin's little companion, still perched in the crook of his arm.
"Frodo?" he murmurs with a frown of utter incomprehension on his face, and then his gaze shifts back to Thorin once more. "Tho…" his voice gives in, and Bilbo tries again, with effort, "Thorin?"
"At your service," Thorin breathes out, the most absurd thing he could have possibly come up with.
