Jackson likes his job. There’s a methodical element to being a constable that he finds comforting, but it's balanced with just enough variation in the details of each case to keep his mind from becoming stagnant. So when Jackson walks into station house number four and is greeted with a case the likes of which he has never heard, he’s hardly surprised.
Today, the murder of a dog is station house number four’s top priority. It’s not long before it becomes apparent that this won’t be the strangest part of his day.

At first it didn’t fit quite right, the happiness. It was uncomfortable and scary to share himself with someone in a completely new way. But Jack wanted to know him, and seemed delighted with whatever Watts would give him.
And so Watts had brought him a gift.

As a response, Jack led him inside without a word. Watts took a deep breath, feeling there was something momentous in crossing the threshold. Once he did, there would be no going back. With a resolute step, Watts left his old self behind.
