Summary
The press always paints Hannibal Lecter as having some supernatural genius, and far be it from Hannibal to correct them. But the truth is much more mundane. He is simply much better at recognizing and storing opportunities. Covertly, like a raven, or even as brazenly as a shrike, Hannibal caches resources everywhere. If not too much has changed in the past several years, he's looking at one right now.
Ignoring the pain and the dizziness brought on by blood loss, physical trauma, and stress chemicals, Hannibal drags Will along the beach beside him toward the light.

After the fall, Hannibal and Will regroup at the home of someone who may be just as dangerous as Hannibal himself. Though he thought he'd be dead by now, Will instead has to negotiate two egocentric killers and finally sort out his feelings for Hannibal.

His legs spread in welcome, and Dream steps between them. As fascinating as this concept is, he would rather do other things than talk right now.
Dream grips a handful of Hob’s hair, tilting his head back to meet a bruising kiss. Hob twists and sighs, chasing him, so clearly wanting him.
“You are mine, Hob Gadling,” Dream speaks into his mouth, and Hob shivers, accepting it, claiming Dream in turn with his quiet supplication. “Go on, then. Serve me.”

26-year-old Dale Cooper is just as strange as Will Graham.(This is, more or less, a sister story to my fic February 24, 1989, in which I do the opposite. Instead of carefully placing Will and Hannibal into the Twin Peaks world only for things to become so much more horrific, I am CHUCKING Dale Cooper into the Hannibal world with reckless abandon, and somehow, he is single-handedly preventing a lot of atrocity. Good for him! Don’t worry though, things are still plenty horrific, just very different.
Also, I allowed Cooper to keep his ESP for two reasons: One, it’s funny. Two, Hannibal Lecter is allowed to identify stomach cancer by scent and Elliot Buddish was granted Angel Smite Vision via brain tumor. It was only fair.)

Summary
A delayed chance for manipulation on Lecter’s part opens up new opportunities, setting his design for Will Graham on a different but no less twisted path. The reality of a companion sparks a new vision of the future and movement of players on the chessboard. Realising that Will's capacity for love is greater than his capacity for hate, Hannibal would think with humour, is something he will have to live with.
