“What was your nightmare about?” Bruce whispered to Dick in the quiet.
Dick shifted. “Do you think Mama and Papa would be mad at me for loving you?”
Bruce felt like he had been shot in the heart, a sharp little punch in the beating muscle.
“No,” he murmured after a pause. “Would they be mad at love?”
There was a quiet sniffle, and the next words came out wet.
“No, but...” a cheek tucked into Bruce’s chest. “Even though I love you like I loved them?”

Summary
The melody danced over the dark stone, snatched away every now and then by a gust of chilly wind. A minute passed, two. Goosebumps shivered across Tim’s arms with the music, rising up his neck and down his spine.
He wanted to know what song Robin was whistling, why it was so sad. Was Robin sad? He didn’t usually seem sad, Tim thought. Angry, often, mean sometimes, but usually laughing and joking.
The whistling stopped, eaten up into silence by the cold night air.
