Under heavy threats to his wife, Mairon pledges himself top the evil Vala's cause, thinking the other Valar will soon come to defeat Morgoth again
When he realises that only the Ñoldor, who don't stand a chance against Morgoth's full might, have come, that the Valar won't come to fight again and that he's all alone, he has to do his best to stay alive, help the elves beat his forced and crazy master without said crazy master noticing and to get back to the one he loves most
