Aster was close enough to be overwhelmed by his distinctive scent: tobacco and incense and exquisite soaps and, hidden below it all, something far more primal. "Of course I meant your real master, but I see you inherited neither your creator’s honor nor his good sense.”
“Eiden is our real master, too!” Morvay protested innocently—even as Aster suppressed a guilt-riddled flinch at Kuya’s words—and oh, that was absolutely the wrong thing to say, because Kuya's face shifted from merely cold to downright glacial. It was the same expression he'd make in the brief seconds before he separated an enemy's head from their neck.
