“Feeling anxious, Your Highness?” The overlord teased.
Regaining his bearings, Lucifer laughed off his fraying nerves. “No. No, I trust you.”
“Mmm, a dangerous game, My King,” Alastor whispered, streaks of black dripping down his jaw. He raised a hand to clasp Lucifer’s chin. “Don’t worry. I’m a good master.”
A shiver rocketed down Lucifer’s spine. While Lucifer had never cared to make deals with poor sinners, Alastor was more than experienced with holding the chains of others. Owning people was right up his alley, and that’s what made this such a great gift: he was about to take ownership of the King of Hell himself.
Cracks in Lucifer’s confidence were finally starting to show. Something cold and dark was snaking up his back. Was that fear? No, it couldn’t be. He trusted Alastor, completely and utterly.
One might say his powerful reign had made him too cocky for his own good, but he knew his deer. Alastor would never hurt him. This was the mantra in his head as he felt the cool metal slide against his throat.
