Later that night, Ruby found herself returning to Sapphire’s cell. When she got there, she didn’t say a word. She just sat down, head leaning back against the wall and eyes squeezed shut.
She wished Sapphire would start singing again. It’d be better than thinking about what she’d just done.
Sapphire watched her curiously. Ruby waited, expecting the insults or admonishments that she knew would be coming. Instead, the blue gem asked in a quiet voice, “Are you alright?”
Ruby glowered in her confusion. “Are you sure you should be asking me that?”
