Summary
When Rey finally gets the chance to fly back to the tropical island of Oahu, Hawaii to compete in the Vans Triple Crown of surfing, she's over the moon. She's been waiting for the chance to return home ever since signing with Resistance Surf and now it's her chance to win it all and prove herself to the world as an elite surfer.
What she didn't realize was that First Order Surf built their massive beach front mansion right next to the famed Resistance house, meaning that Rey would have to see Bad Boy of surfing, Ben Solo, far more often than she wanted to. Ever. They don't exactly get along. She knows his history and made her judgement call on him years ago.
But when the dangerous winter waves of the North Shore almost do their worst, Ben Solo is suddenly put into a new light for Rey and her whole world gets flipped upside down.

Ben has been friends with Rey for two years. They've been best friends since day one. And while Ben definitely wants more, he's more concerned with keeping Rey in his life.
Cue the weekly game night with a mightily distracted Rey typing away at her phone. Ben thinks that Rey must be texting some mysterious suitor and gets down on himself. When Rey leaves suddenly and leaves her phone screen wide open for viewing, Ben can't help but peek to see just who Rey's been messaging.
Curious Cat Prompt: Rey left her phone on and Ben sees that she was texting her friend about how she is gonna start dressing skimpy to seduce Ben.

She turned roughly away when she felt a stray tear roll down her cheek. God damn it. It was so mortifying. Of all the people in San Francisco she could break down in front of, it had to be Ben-fucking-Solo. She took a few steps backwards, intending to spin around and run away before she could embarrass herself any further, but a large hand wrapped around her wrist before she could.
“Wait.” He didn’t say any more for a second. He only looked at her, his eyebrows drawing minutely together, as if he was puzzling through a stubborn bug, an impossible problem.
Then, just as Rey was about to shake his hand loose, she heard him ask, “Do you want to?”
UK borne Rey Unkar thought she finally found a home in Silicon Valley: she has close friends that love her, a great career at Resistance Labs, a vacation to Puerto Rico in the plans, and even an online friend who she can nerd out with on all things C . Then, her H-1B extension gets denied and she has 10 days before she is required to leave the U.S.

Summary
It is late summer, 1939. The Wizard of Oz is in the local movie house, Germany is about to invade Poland, and Ben Solo has returned to town after being expelled from his uncle's military academy.
Rey Smith is trying to survive a difficult life, and she doesn't need to remember how cruel Ben Solo was to her before he left town. She can't afford to think about that, or him, and she is determined to ignore his existence.
Except that she can't, any more than he can ignore hers.
