Summary
Inspired by "Hollyhocking" by @Sullen_in_Love. Wonderful fic!
After Thorin unexpectedly bestows on Bilbo the cure to his nearly fatal bout with hollyhocking, Bilbo reflects on how he narrowly missed losing his beloved King Under the Mountain in the Battle of the Five Armies. Still healing from the final expulsion of the flowers from his lungs, Bilbo refuses to rest if it means saving Thorin and his nephews. Never in his life, and certainly not in those painful months of coughing up forget-me-nots, did he ever think that he would ever experience and survive hollyhocking to find that the one for whom he pined wanted to marry him. -

“And then I found out I’m old enough to sleep alone! I don’t need Papa and Adad to sleep with me anymore, because I’m a big boy!”
The words hit Bilbo like a blow to the heart. He glances at Thorin, and the pain on his husband’s face matches his own.
“A-ah, son, you should still sleep with us,” Bilbo stammers, trying desperately to hold onto the precious time when Frodo still needs them. He isn’t ready for his boy to grow up so quickly!
“But why?” Frodo asks, his face falling with disappointment.
Bilbo’s heart aches even more, but Thorin quickly steps in. “Because we need to make your room first! So you should definitely sleep with us for now,” he says with a nod, sending a meaningful look to Balin.
“Y-yes! There aren’t any available rooms yet, your highness,” Balin adds with a nervous laugh, while Dís rolls her eyes playfully.
“But does that mean I’ll get a room soon?” Frodo asks earnestly, his big eyes brimming with excitement.
Bilbo and Thorin sigh in unison. “Yes, Frodo,” Bilbo says gently. “You’ll get your own room… just not yet.”

It takes Bilbo falling into the pond at Rivendell and nearly drowning for Thorin to realize that he can't swim. Thorin can't let a member of his company be put in such danger again, and Bilbo would be perfectly happy if he never even had to look at a large body of water again.
