Summary
In the reflection of the puddle is the boy that’s too young to be a topside cashier he briefly interacted with at the parts shop, now following Jayce from above. The kid didn't want be noticed, evident when he hurriedly scrambles back on the roof, out of view of the puddle’s reflection.
Jayce makes a loud show of marching to the building the kid is on, and sets his box full of illegal parts down with a clatter. “Did I not give you enough to eat already, kiddo?”
Or: Jayce notices when Ekko is tailing him back to his apartment in episode one. This changes everything.

Summary
Caitlyn looked him up and down. She hummed and nodded to him, turning to walk away. Jayce bowed his head first to her and then her parents.
“Thank you for your time.”
“And thank you for yours,” Mr. Kiramann said with a warm smile.
As he turned to the next people approaching him, Jayce just heard Caitlyn’s voice over the din of chatter in the room.
“I like him.”

“What do you think you’re doing?” This voice was new, and it slid like oil down the blade of a knife. There was man—a man Viktor had never seen before—standing in the door. Viktor’s palms went cold and began to prickle, sweaty. Strangers were dangerous.
The Alchemist was unperturbed. “Welcome, Silco.”

Why does Viktor already have a secret compartment in his cane, just the right size for a vial of shimmer? What if he wasn’t so shocked at the suggestion of Shimmer as a path to arcane vitality? What if life was just a little bit more taxing on a young scholar who only ever wanted to work for a few hours without pain?

Summary
Friends make friends stuff all the time, and Jayce did break Viktor's cane. It'd be a nice thing to do. A cane, plus some cool tools, and Jayce will be able to know he's a good friend. He likes this plan.
(Or, Jayce makes a new cane for Viktor. He then makes some more stuff. It spirals from there very, very quickly.)

The door to the room creaked and Jayce’s eyes shot open.
“Am I interrupting?”
There was a click. The dim, warm glow of a lightbulb flickered to life.
“You know, the sofa was your idea.” Viktor stepped into the light, a small, wry grin playing at his lips as he approached Jayce with the soft thunk of his cane. “I still think it takes up too much space. What’s the point if you’re not going to use it, hm?”

Or, Jayce gets teleported to the same AU as Ekko and Heimerdinger, and this Viktor is not the Viktor who left him.
