Summary
After being resurrected, Lord Voldemort completes a magically-binding blood-adoption ritual on Harry Potter as a way to circumvent the protections Lily placed over the boy.
It should have been simple: make the boy his, kill him, bask in his victory.
Only, Harry is not just connected to him any more. They are not just blood-linked and inheritance linked. They are soul linked.
Harry's very presence sooths Voldemort's paranoia and mends his insanity. Tom is feeling emotions again. Harry's and his own.

This new equilibrium places both Tom and Harry in incredible danger.
If Albus Dumbledore and his blasted Order of the Phoenix realize that Harry is keeping Tom both immortal and sane, he will be killed.

Summary
Lord Voldemort casted the killing curse on Lily Potter and regained consciousness inside a dark cupboard. He looked at a boy crying on a small bed and the boy made eye contact with him. Voldemort froze. Harry Potter.
Voldemort... no, Tom slowly regained his humanity. He felt pride, affection, and most of all... a parental sort of love for the boy as he trained and grow closer to him, a desire to protect and guide him to be a marvel of a wizard.
A realisation struck Tom like a bolt of lightning. He was not the original Voldemort. He was but a piece of his soul lodged inside Harry Potter's body. Voldemort was somewhere out there still hunting his beloved boy.
He decided that he would rise once more. Harry will be safe and happy and Tom will make sure of it. Nothing could stop him now.
