Summary
The year is 2998, twenty years before the Fellowship is formed. In the story we know, Denethor is careful with the Palantír, using it sparingly and late in the war. In this one, he turns to it much earlier.
Concerned by his father's decline, Faramir investigates, only to realise the situation is far worse than he could possibly have imagined.
With Denethor's reason turned to madness, and Saruman the White out to kill him for what he has discovered in the Palantír, Faramir sets off on a quest to find Mithrandir, the only person who might now be able to save Gondor.
Thankfully, he will stand a good chance with Aragorn son of Arathorn by his side too.
(Aragorn to appear from Ch3, hobbits from Ch4 or 5)

Faramir is a lone ranger, and his pursuit of a mysterious monster brings him face to face with a witcher. Initially Faramir follows him out of curiousity, but ends up unraveling years worth of built-up loneliness and realizing he's nowhere near as cold or detached from people as he thought. "I was wondering who it could be, shadowing me like that." The scarred witcher never glanced at his direction, yet there was no surprise in his voice, like he'd been expecting Faramir.
Like Faramir wasn't situated atop a cliffside a fair distance above the man, skulking about the bushes like a common cutthroat, bow in a steady grip and arrow at the ready. When he didn't answer, staying as still as he could, he faintly heard a huff of laughter from the witcher. Then the man casually leant to back on his spot, propping to rest his weight on his arms and head rolling back to face Faramir, those golden eyes piercing as they held the glow of the sunset. The witcher only smiled. "At least do me the courtesy of a decent conversation, would you? A bit rude not to after hounding my steps for two whole days."Bookmarked by SoleGardener

Summary
After the events of the War of the Ring, the day before Aragorn is to be crowned, the fellowship is shocked to discover that Boromir has in fact survived and has returned to Minas Tirith.
What happens next is a re-imagining of the very end of RoTK and onwards in Gondor, with a focus on Boromir and how he, along with his brother Faramir, would live out their lives under the rule of King Elessar. Initially discontent with Aragorn, Boromir claims he is "too much a Ranger, too little a King." However, as time goes on, he begins to see the true root of his grudge...
