To hold her child and know Bow will be missing moments and milestones they can never get back?
She doesn’t realize she's started crying until she feels Bow's hand moving up and down her back rhythmically. It only makes her cry harder.
"I promise I'll be back." He whispers fiercely, his own voice coated in tears. "Nothing will keep me from you and our child."
"I will be waiting for you." She promises in return, hiding her face in the crook of his neck. She takes a deep breath, trying to commit the smell to memory. It's clean and comforting, and she could pick it out anywhere. "No matter how long it takes."
