First, there was Cedric. Sweet, hardworking, loyal Cedric. Harry thought they were endgame, that they’d found something real in the chaos. Maybe they could have been.
But Harry was too much—too much emotion, too much danger, too much of everything. Cedric was steady, grounded, someone who craved order and simplicity. Harry? He was a whirlwind of chaos, dragging trouble wherever he went. Cedric grew tired of trying to calm the storm that always seemed to follow. He wanted something quieter, something less complicated. Less Harry.
Then Tom came along.
Where Cedric had been calm, Tom was a storm. He didn’t shy away from Harry’s intensity—he thrived on it. The rivalry, the tension, it crackled between them, sharp and electric. Tom didn’t want peace; he wanted fire, conflict, the thrill of the unknown. He walked the line between hatred and something far more dangerous.
Where Cedric pulled away, Tom stepped closer, daring Harry to lose himself in the chaos. And Harry did.

Let’s make things clear: Tom Riddle doesn’t hate Harry Potter. He may think he is loud, annoying and on top of that a Gryffindor, but some force didn’t let him hate the boy. It could be his charisma, or how brilliant he was when he wasn’t wasting his time on the quidditch field. He had nothing against him.
He managed to go all the way through his six years at Hogwarts without having much contact with the Gryffindor, but the summer break of their Sixth Year came and with it a change of heart.
Not that he suddenly decided to like him, no, but he saw Harry Potter, the Golden Child, the perfect seeker, the sweet ‘innocent’ lion tangled with the Dark Arts.
He didn’t want to let something so simply change his mind about Potter, but it was exhilarating to think that the perfect representation of a Gryffindor, almost the face of what a Light Wizard should be like, was practising something so dangerous. His indifference shifted to fascination. It wasn’t any type of Dark Arts that Tom saw that night. Potter summoned a demon in front of his eyes, in the comfort of his house, mere floors away from where his parents were sleeping peacefully.
He fooled everyone. -

Rewrite of Devotion, this takes place before all of the things in that fic, and it isn't needed to read the first part to read this, as this is to fix all of the plot holes. When I end this fic (that serves as a prequel) I'll delete "Devotion" and start all over again.
