Eloise had escaped the confines of Bridgerton House under the pretense of needing fresh air, though in truth, she sought solitude and a reprieve from the endless chatter about marriage prospects.
She had just settled on a shaded bench near the Serpentine, her latest pamphlet on women’s rights tucked beneath her arm, when she noticed a commotion nearby. Two children were engaged in what could only be described as a duel, albeit one involving sticks rather than swords. The boy, slightly older, waved his makeshift weapon with gusto, while the younger girl jabbed hers with a surprising amount of ferocity.
Eloise couldn’t help but smile.

Phillip doesn't want to repeat the generational cycle of trauma he received from his childhood onto his children. He puts duty and honor above his own happiness; so much so he does not believe he is worthy of love due to his bad luck.
But Miss Bridgerton's arrival into his life threatens to alter his entire trajectory and wreck his plans forever.
