“And you’re sure this is fine?” Wille grips Simon’s hand a little tighter. Their thick mittens don’t allow for nearly enough precision while holding hands, but Wille wants to make this work anyways. Least of all because he gets to do this now, hold Simon’s hand in public. He gets to tug him along the rink by his hand, just like the other couples are doing it. Letting go of Simon’s hand would be a waste of a perfectly good opportunity to show off the fact that, unlike last Christmas, he’s very happily in love and being loved back, very publicly and like it’s the most natural thing.
Simon furrows his brows at Wille and lifts his chin in a motion that almost feels a little too defiant for the simple question.
“Told you,” he says, not without a bit of an edge, and Wille gets a little lost in watching the little cloud of his breath puff out above the scarf Wille wrapped around him earlier. “I just need a few more minutes to get back into it. I used to be really good at this.”Or: Wille takes Simon ice skating. Simon isn't very enthusiastic.

“It’s snowing,” Wille says quietly.
He immediately feels Simon stir, moving to lift his head off Wille's chest. He watches, enthralled with the adorable way Simon blinks against the sudden brightness, clearly also struggling with the unfamiliar intensity of the white light.

Sweet, lovely, persuasive little thing. Wilhelm felt intoxicated every time he so much as thought of him. His mouth ached with the need to say Simon’s name, his lips burned with the memories, and his heart twisted with a tenderness that made him feel almost fragile.
He could only pray it was a temporary madness that would fade with time, because he knew too well that nothing could come of it, not really. Still, he was certain he'd never felt this way before. And he was careful in his assessment, too: he’d always rolled his eyes at the characters on TV shows who whispered, lovesick and doe-eyed, “I have never felt this way about anyone ever.”~~~
Wilhelm is caught in a consuming infatuation with someone who can never truly be his. Struggling to reconcile his feelings, he tries to ignore the longing, but it lingers, a constant ache beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Simon is overwhelmed by the burdens of his work and the unresolved ghosts of his past, leaving little room for anything else. As he navigates his tangled emotions, love seems like the last thing on his mind — until, perhaps, it isn’t.

Summary
Looking back, it's easy to say which decisions led Simon to where he was now. It wasn't always his own decisions, but it doesn't matter. He wouldn't want to blame anyone, it would be unfair. It wasn't his parents fault they wanted to arrange a fortunate marriage for their daughter; it wasn't Sara's fault she trusted her betrothed. It wasn't Simon's fault he didn't believe the old legend of dragon summoning ritual to be true.
None of that matters anymore, because the legend proved to be true, and Simon ended up being a captive in the dragon's lair.-or-
AU in which Simon is accidentally sacrificed to a dragon. Good news is he's not the only one held captive by the monster.
