Summary
There's a saying among sorcerers. That sorcerers don't save people, sorcerers exorcise curses.
It's supposed to be pragmatic, not cruel. There's few sorcerers and many curses. You do the most good leaving rescue to EMS.2019 opens with a fucking apocalypse to really put that to the test. Gojo Satoru is sealed. Half their number is dead or crippled. Some of them are enrolled in a murder game that's swallowed thousands upon thousands of people across the country - and EMS can't help them. Anyone does anything about it and they'll be branded a traitor, ostracized, outcast, punishable by execution.
Thing is, these kids all care about one another.

“He was beautiful!” Ashido pops up, sliding on top of the coffee table in front of Kaminari with a wild grin. The classmates ignore Iida’s indignant yelling.
“Long, flowing hair, pale skin, nice eyes,” she sighs dreamily, “I’m so glad we got to meet such a hot ghost.”
“I didn’t really see him,” Sero recalls, “I just remember hearing a voice and then running for our lives.” Kirishima gives a nod.
“Plus, it was really dark,” he adds.
“That’s because you weren’t looking,” Ashido gives a pout.
Uraraka gives a hum, she wants to see a hot ghost. Hagakure shifts beside her, careful not to move too much, and she feels a woosh by her head from what must be a fist in the air.
“That’s it!” she exclaims, “I want to see the hot ghost.”
In which Class A just wants to find a ghost, but instead they find a lonely, forgotten god in the middle of the woods.
