Summary
After a miraculous recovery not many believed would ever happen, Arthur Morgan survived and healed from the trials of 1899. With no one else but his partner and closest friend Charles Smith, who had come for him with the idea of burying his corpse, the two made a hasty yet slow escape to the Canadian mountains.
Now, with a new life and a flourishing relationship with each other, a surprise is soon to come.
However, a horrid virus begins to slowly sweep throughout the towns and close-knit settlements of the mountains—reanimating the dead to where they now walk amongst the living. The virus slowly spreads down through the whole continent, leaving nearly no land untouched.
The best thing they can do is hope for survival in their little isolated corner of the country.

Summary
After Arthur's tragic end on the mountain, John is now in possession of his brother's belongings. Of these belongings included Arthur's private journal, and after reading through most of his brother's thoughts and feelings, John discovers something that he never knew, uncovering a deeper relationship that Arthur had with his dearest friend, Charles Smith.
Years later, in 1907, he meets Charles once again, and this time, he intends to understand the full depth of his and Arthur's former feelings.
