He cleared his throat, but the words that had previously been bubbling to the surface were now lodged, wilted along with his nerve. His mouth felt dry and he started to open and close his hands from habit.
“Hey, it’s okay.” April extended a hand to gently rest on his shoulder, briefly startling the soft shell, but grounding him from the static in his head. “What is it?” She tried again, warmth enveloping her words.
“I…am I…normal?” Donnie asked finally, his voice small. He was now picking at a loose thread on the cuff of his favorite sweatshirt, pointedly not looking in her direction.
