The target was walking to the entrance of Jardin des Tuileries seemingly oblivious of it all. A couple of meters behind him, two men were following him to ensure his protection. She had been following him since the beginning of the week, when she had to patch up Eleanor Bishop, unsurprisingly wounded after her cover was blown. She even had to cancel her mother-daughter date with Tali because there was too much blood to clean and too little time on her hands. Tony, sanctimonious Anthony DiNozzo Jr, had picked up the teenager from school. Unsurprisingly, he took great pleasure in reminding her that he too may have had plans “thank you very much, Ziva”. As if she didn’t know that Claudette liked to visit him in the evening and often spent the night pressed against the mattress of the master bedroom or, if Tali wasn’t there, bent over the kitchen counter.

It was always like that: they had good moments, bad ones and those long stretches of nothingness that made Ziva’s heart clench in pain. When she joined her family in Paris she told herself that she would have accepted every single one of Tony's requests concerning not only Tali’s custody, but also their relationship.
