Once upon a time there was a misguided individual who created an app called Lore.fm to steal AO3 works and read them with AI-voices. In order to avoid having their works stolen, AO3 authors were required to OPT-OUT, but guess what?
The creator of this app never contacted authors at all to announce her app’s creation and intended thievery! No, she expected authors to hear about it word of mouth. And she expects her “team” to be able to handle requests from hundreds of thousands of authors on AO3 for opt-outs. Yeah right.
AO3 authors’ only other option is to user-lock their works. You can get a FREE AO3 account as a reader, you do not have to be an author. All my works are still here, just user-locked from now on.
Btw text to speech is available as an accommodation FOR FREE on every device under the sun. And people who create podfiics do it with LIVE humans as an artform and WITH permission.
** BAD NEWS ** Upon heavy consideration, I feel like the best option is to go back to user-locking my fics. See ch 2 for an explanation.
