Greta paused, and Carson could feel her energy shift as she delicately placed the last of her bobby pins into the dish on her dresser before turning to face Carson, tilting her head to the side. Her flirty smile had vanished, replaced with a look of mingled concern and hurt. “Carson, you know I don’t want to do this, right?”
The sadness in Greta’s voice, so carefully hidden through the evening, hit Carson square in the chest. Carson hung her head as a hot wave of shame swept over her. She suddenly felt so petty. Of course Greta didn’t want to go on these dates.
