It was then that Chuuya realized something was off. As an adult Dazai had larger hands but they were now wrapped around the executive"s clenched fist. Chuuya’s voice was pitched too high. It could have been due to the sudden onslaught of fatigue that was straining his voice, but he knew all too well his voice always carried a deep tone, gravelly and rough when exhaustion hit.
No. There was something very off.
“Good morning, Little Mafioso.”

For someone who can remember nothing of their life before the age of seven, navigating through Yokohama as a young boy ends up being more of a challenge than the mafia executive expected. Unsure what is causing Chuuya to revert to a child while still having his adult mind is frustrating but when it"s discovered that he could suffer permanent effects, the situation becomes a little less cute.

Or: Five years ago, Chuuya got transportet to an alternate universe by an ability. AU!Dazai is cruel and merciless, tormenting Chuuya every chance he gets. When Chuuya eventually returns to his own world, he is hurt, wary and understandably scared. Dazai has to pick up the pieces and regain his ex-partner"s trust.

“Listen, I can deal with whatever sick shit you decide do with me, but don’t fucking pretend that you care. Don’t fucking pretend to be him. I don’t know how you figured out how I used to organize my flat, or – or the nicknames we had – but don’t you fucking dare.” Chuuya’s voice wavers, quivers, and Dazai’s heart cracks almost audibly.
“Chuuya. I… what?” Dazai can barely bear to look at Chuuya, because the other man’s lips tremble and his eyes are glassy, as if he’s on the verge of crying. Dazai’s heart stutters and the palms of his hands grow clammy. For as long as he could think, emotions were more like a hobby to him, something he indulges in when he feels like it, something he turns off when it gets annoying. They aren’t supposed to overpower him like this, to sweep him away and stick to him like melted rubber. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Who is him?”
Chuuya swallows harshly and fidgets where he lies, hands clenching and unclenching around the bedding. He seems to wrestle with himself. “Are you… Are you really him?”
“Who?” Dazai asks, desperate. “Am I who, Chibi? For goodness sake, you’re not making any sense!”
Chuuya winces at the nickname, but his eyes light up for a split second. “Dazai. Are you really Dazai?”

Unmistakable. Hearing it was like smelling it, was like seeing it, watching the carnage, something inhuman, incredible, never to be replicated- never the same twice, never tiring of watching it.
The unmistakable rumble reached him, crackling through the phone’s speaker, which would only mean one thing.
