Summary
It was those tear stains that kept Faith reading. Days, weeks, months passed in Buffy’s written words. And after each entry, the same words were always written.
‘ Please Faith, come back to me. ’
So wrapped up in what she was reading, Faith failed to notice the quiet opening and closing of the front door downstairs. She failed to hear the sound of light stealthy footsteps making their way up the stairs. She failed to hear the bedroom door open up quietly, and failed to hear the small but quiet intake of breath. She failed to hear the slow steps of someone crossing the room, nor did she notice the dip in the bed that she was perched on as someone sat down beside her.
None of that ever registered to Faith, for the passage she had found was different than the others and held her powerless in its thrall. It was dated not more than three days ago.

Usagi drew back, the images ceasing to appear. “Have you not wondered why Chibiusa has pink hair and crimson eyes?” She whispered to Rei, whose eyes were still shut, “It’s what you get when you mix red with white.” She giggled a little and kissed Rei on the cheek.
“Odango.” Rei smiled, rubbing her cheek against Usagi’s own, the soft touch of sensitive skin giving both of them goose bumps.
“Pyro.” Usagi grinned, pulling Rei down and onto the bed, drawing the covers up around them, their symbols still glowing upon their foreheads. -

Neptune had lost all track of time. Nothing meant anything to her anymore, except for the extinguished spark of life she held in her arms. A sound pierced the eerie dark. Two sets of footfalls walking slowly and in tandem toward her. She knew who it was. She didn’t even bother to look up.
“I care nothing for what you have to say, just do what you have to do. My life means nothing to me anymore.” She whispered. “My life means nothing at all if she is gone. Gods it was never supposed to end like this.”
As the Silence Glaive’s blade fell forward, powered by the swing of the pole held by the young woman, a single tear escaped her eye and splashed upon the cheek of the one she held in her arms.
“…Selia…forgive me…”

And then it happened. Just as I brought my wrist up to check the time, my watch beeped merrily, signaling that it was five o’clock. Hearing the low rumble of the bus coming around the corner and down the street, I felt the first droplet splash on my cheek. Smiling and raising my umbrella, the sky cut loose upon the unsuspecting citizens of Tokyo. Giggling slightly at those unfortunate enough to not have an umbrella or jacket, which was about ninety eight percent of them, I watched the bus stop and its doors open. The people filed out into the rain, hurrying as fast as they could through the afternoon crowd of people. Watching carefully, I finally saw her. Stepping regally off the bus I was at her side in a flash, protecting her from the rain.

They had killed that demon but not before his essence — or whatever the nasty stuff coming off of him was supposed to be — had completely covered Faith.
She should have trusted her instincts.
