This time, the butterfly transmitted a scene of a bustling street. On the margins, Xie Lian could make out clusters of ghosts and demons pressed against one another, all mangled clumps of monstrous limbs and heads. In the center of the street, however, it became harder to discern individual ghosts; it was like the entire population of Ghost City had become a single, churning mass of raw sex. On the periphery, ghost fires of various colors set the seedy street ablaze, while amidst the central mass, rainbow-colored slime coated every slick body. There were some off-beat shrieks and bellows, but for the most part, the mass seemed to emit a tuneless, gibbering hum, rising and falling with the writhing waves of interlocking souls.

Shi Qingxuan almost said ‘No, the wrongs we’ve done each other have been made even, but I can’t help you’ but then he looked up from the table and saw He Xuan watching him, unblinking, unbreathing. He thought about the pain he had seen in those eyes, he thought about He Xuan rejecting the food, he thought about how He Xuan had likely been watching him but had not once tried to hurt him or interfere.
So, instead, Shi Qingxuan smiled, a brilliant beaming smile that almost reached his eyes. “Alright! I’ll help you out. What are former best friends for anyways?”

He Xuan needs someone new to take care of his fish because Hua Cheng can't be trusted with that sacred task anymore (or is it just that there is another person he would rather see?). Shi Qingxuan becomes that someone.
