Summary
Evan “Buck” Buckley was not an honest person as much as he would like to be or even was trying to be in his own way. His dishonesty wasn’t malicious in the slightest though. He had his reasons, of course, but his entire identity was built on a shaky Jenga tower of lies. As much as he built it up, one by one the blocks were still removed over the years making the tower less and less stable.
Buck joined the 118 fresh out of the Navy and braced himself for all the questions that were about to come his way which he did not want to answer. Then, like a gift from above, somehow and shockingly, no one had read his resume, and he found he could start all over again, be a new person, someone completely different or maybe who he was supposed to be all along.

Summary
"At least Buck handled it better than last time,” Chim says.
“What do you mean?” Eddie asks.
“What, nobody ever told you?” Chim raises an eyebrow at him.
“Dude, Buck was a whole mess when that well collapsed on you,” Chim says as if it is common knowledge. “He tried digging through the dirt with his bare hands, yelling for you.”
Eddie did not know this.
or: Eddie finds out about how Buck reacted to him getting buried alive. Then he has a few realizations.

Summary
Bit by bit, Buck stopped.
He just stopped.
It began with the little things. First, he stopped checking his phone when he woke up. He used to do it everyday. He’d check for notifications on Chimney’s instagram, or maybe a new message from the 118 group chat. It wasn’t that anyone other than him texted at one in the morning, but sometimes he’d sleep past one of Cap’s old-timey GIFs or whatever.
Sometimes, Athena would text and greet him good morning. And a few weeks into knowing him, Chris would send a morning message begging for help, normally because Eddie was trying to make pancakes again.
So, with everything going on, Buck always made it a point that the moment his eyes opened, he would check his phone.
Until the first week after the lawsuit, and for the seventh day in a row, there wasn’t anything there except a pitfall in Buck’s stomach.
Nothing.
Never.
Not even a quick ‘hello’.
Even Maddie hadn’t texted him much less to tell him that it was ‘good he dropped the lawsuit when he did’. Nothing else, though.
So, Buck ceased checking his phone. After all, why did he even need to?

Summary
“Did you say Evan Buckley?” Eddie has to confirm because there’s no way he heard that correctly.
“Yes, sir…” The lady says, continuing on, but Eddie hears none of it, his brain still stuck on the name. Evan Buckley. He hasn’t heard that name in years. His thoughts become a grainy slideshow of memories, fragmented from the years; a wicked smile on a dirty face, broad shoulders covered in camo, curly hair blowing in the breeze, piercing blue eyes gleaming in the sunshine.
