    Something shifted between them in the crystal cavern. Katara didn't know what had caused the change, something undeniable had. She no longer saw 'the face of the enemy' when she looked at Zuko. She wasn't exactly sure what she saw when she looked at him now, but as he regarded her with surprisingly gentle eyes, Katara couldn't help reaching up to cup the angry scar that covered half his face. It was obvious he wasn't the person she'd assumed he was... the person he'd pretended to be.. and whilst Katara knew she wasn't seeing the whole picture, she couldn't help hoping Zuko would let her know the truth in time.

    Author's note: This is an updated version of two shorter stories I originally wrote in 2020.
