Summary
“Eddie Diaz, such a considerate guest, really committing to the party theme. And here I was feeling good about coming early to help tape up the banners,” Karen grins, gesturing at the pink Valentine’s bunting above them.
“What?” Eddie repeats, this time in confusion.
“The goddamn heart-eyes, Diaz,” she laughs. “I feel like I’m interrupting something here. I’d say put 'em away, but 'tis the season, and also, I don’t think you actually could if you wanted to.”
or, a fever, a party, a late night tv show: three times eddie’s heart falls out his ass because buck keeps looking at him like that. he’s just got to find a way to tell him that doesn’t involve a convoluted cephalopod analogy about love

Summary
“Just don’t expect me to walk you down the aisle,” Phillip laughed, looking around like he expected the rest to agree.
And when no one did, glancing at one another in shock, confusion, and hurt on his behalf... it’d been the last straw:
“I wouldn’t ask you to,” Buck said, as if discussing something as inconsequential as the weather, “I’d ask Bobby.”

They weren’t,” Eddie said, expression innocuous as the table fell silent, everyone turning to face him with varying looks of surprise and confusion.
Mind blank and brow furrowing, Buck was the first to venture, “... what?”
“Bobby and Athena,” he casually supplied, ignoring the way Buck’s parents balked at the reveal. He didn’t spare them a single glance. He only had eyes for Buck, “They weren’t put-off when I asked if they’d be ok with me marrying you.”
“You asked Bobby and Athena,” Buck began, not yet trusting his voice to not give out, choked by the emotion that had grabbed him by the throat and squeezed, “for their blessing?”
“Like Athena said: if it was something I thought mattered to you,” Eddie replied, like anything else would’ve been entirely inconceivable, “I’d do it.”

Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

Summary
“Me too.”
Eddie’s surprise at hearing himself speak for the first time since he was introduced isn’t nearly as shocking as realizing that both he and Buck say the same thing at the same time. Eddie trails his gaze up the line of Buck’s neck, watches the way his Adam’s apple bobs when he swallows, and finds those glacier lake eyes looking right at him. Eddie’s never been the type of person to stand down. To roll over and bare his belly. He won’t look away, can’t concede to that, but the idea of being seen by a complete stranger is unnerving and Eddie feels a little defenseless. Bobby clears his throat and they both blink out of their strange standoff. Eddie’s flush only burns hotter when he sees Hen and Chim share a look like it’s an entire conversation and something deep and unknown twinkle in Bobby’s eyes.
“That’s something we can all think about for next week,” Bobby smiles knowingly, “where are we stuck in life? And, maybe,” he turns towards all of them, “we just might figure out how to help each other move forward.”
