“Hmm, what’s this?” Aventurine’s eyes flick up to meet his. His words are lazy and slightly slurred, and Veritas swallows thickly. “Expecting someone, or was this for me?”
“Tempting,” he says, bringing his hand up. He slowly pries the gun from Aventurine’s deft fingers. The world slows when Aventurine grabs his wrist, guiding Veritas’ hand, and the gun as a result, to trace the barrel along his jaw.
or, veritas steals aventurine away from the gambling hall to keep an eye on him, and definitely for no other reason.

Peonies symbolised happiness, romance,prosperity, good fortune and wealth. It is everything Aventurine is to him and perhaps it is also what Aventurine deep down wanted. Like the Peony his mother had once gave him the task of reviving, he believes one day, he could see Aventurine will also find the reason to keep living and by then perhaps he could see life in his eyes again.

Summary
Veritas remembers the day he met Aventurine; he was quieter then. Flamboyant as ever but hesitant to push it too far, like if he crossed whatever line he'd drawn in his head, the world might come crashing down around him.
At first, all he'd felt for the man had been disdain, but over time, that feeling had twisted into something else he couldn't quite put into words. It's embarrassing that it takes the other man getting allegedly injured on some random planet all alone for Veritas to realize that maybe what he feels for his colleague isn't just going to go away.

"Well, you allowed me to hold them."
"I'm cold."
"So, I'm not trying to seduce you," Aventurine says, thoroughly amused. "I'm just keeping you warm."

“Absurd man,” Ratio continues, and Aventurine, just for a second, feels the tips of fingers brush aside the wisps of blonde hair at his nape. The blanket is tucked against his skin, far more secure than before, as if to prevent it from slipping in the middle of the night. “Take better care of yourself,” he admonishes, which sounds an awful lot like, ‘I care about you.’
Ratio prefers the classic show versus tell when it comes to caring about those he wants to keep in his life. Or, Ratio wishes Aventurine would take better care of himself.
