Summary
“Understand that once you do this, you can’t take it back. It’s better to die. There’s a power to dying clean … dying free. It’s not love, what you’re about to do. It’s not beautiful and it’s not powerful. It’s a mistake. We didn’t even do it right … we were children—playing with the reflections of stars in a pool of water … thinking it was space.”
The story of a mistake: neither beautiful nor powerful—dying dirty and together. A luckless night at a shitty bar, and the ascension of the Third Saint to serve the King Undying; how the woman that would become Pyrrha Dve met the man on fire.

Summary
Pyrrha does not care about the Olympics. She stopped giving a shit about the Olympics eons ago.
So it’s just her luck to sit herself down on the couch after a very long and grueling flight in from Beijing, switch on the television for some white noise, and come face to face with Olympic fencing finals. She could turn it off, yes. She very nearly does, but then she catches sight of the names in boxes at the corner of the screen and freezes still like a damn statue, because the New Zealand finalist's name is Gideon.

Summary
She feels like he’s peeling every layer of her being, one by one by one. And when he gets to her bones, he’ll find something she’ll never be able to run away from.
“…you,” the stranger says, his hands flexing into fists. Unclenching again. “You are…”
Gideon holds her breath. She doesn’t know why she thinks so, but it seems to her that Harrow does as well.
The corner of the man’s lips twitches up in a smile.
“You’re the spitting image of your mother.”

Summary
“I still love you,” you say. I can feel your breaths, sharp, hot, hissing on my cheek. You taste of meat and not salt. I bite your cheek to make sure we’re both real, and you don’t even flinch. That’s devotion too. Not the kind John thinks he deserves. Something else. Mine.
Or:
Alecto knows what kind of story she's in.
