Summary
“Can you feel it?” he whispers, eyes leaving her lips to meet hers once again.
“Feel what?” It’s barely audible. He shouldn’t be able to hear it over the thrumming beat, reaching them in this corner they’ve found.
His head is spinning, but he’s unable to tell if it’s the beers’ effect or Musa’s. He reckons it’s the latter as the flashing lights and buzzing music fade from his awareness save for the effect the violet and indigo lights have as they dance on Musa’s skin.
“Me,” he says, meeting Musa’s eyes once again. “All this time, mind fairy aside, you have to be able to feel it by now.”
But Musa stares back, eyeing him with just as much intent as he is. She tilts her chin up in challenge, and seals their fate with one sentence, eyes glowing purple for a moment.
“Can you feel it?”OR- Five times Musa asked Riven to dance and one time he asked her

“I’m fine.”
One of her eyebrows rises high enough to be hidden behind her fringe.
“This is what I’m trained for,” he brushes off her obvious skepticism.
“For combat, yeah,” she agrees. “Not for the enemy being your own mind-controlled teammates, or for your best friend to get taken as leverage by Blood Witches. And,” she glances around, but the outdoor area is devoid of other students. “I know you were on weird terms, but…Beatrix…”
His face falls immediately, although he tries — and fails — to cover it up by clearing his throat and changing his posture to stare off into the distance instead of at her.
“I’m not sure what happened between you two, but I know you cared about her, for some time at least.”

“Riv, can I tell you something?”
The surprise is apparent on his face and in his aura, but it’s not dismay at her having the audacity to even ask. It’s a ‘you live in a suite with four of your girlfriends but you want to talk to me?’ kind of bewilderment, from someone who’s not used to being a legitimate choice for sensitive subject matters. And he clearly knows that’s what this is, because his voice softens when he finally replies.
“Yeah. Of course you can.”
Her arms tighten around her knees. “It’s about my mom.”
“Are you sure?” He straightens up a little. “You don’t owe me an explanation, about any of that.”
“I think I’ve been wanting to tell someone for a while.” That’s not quite true, and if she’s not going to be honest, there’s no point to this. “I’ve been wanting to tell you, for a while.”
