He took a deep breath. And then released it with the opening motions, his indigo blue robes flowing along with the movements. He channelled the frustrations of the young prince, soon to be man and king, the weight of responsibilities, the courtly endeavours portrayed succinctly by Nie Huaisang and Jin Zixuan, who all pushed him towards the comfort of the lake.
The swirl of white and the masked extras heralded the entrance of the swans.
It was good that the specific part had him fading into the darker background for a few seconds, for his reaction to the next moment was visceral (oh, and also why his brother had suspiciously kept Wei Ying away from the backstage).
The White Swan had entered.

Summary
Fighting feral chickens and buffaloes was not how Wei Wuxian was planning on spending the Mid-Autumn festival.
Little children like his nephew and his adopted son should be running around and enjoying the myriad amusements the festival had to offer, as he and his brother had indulged in at Lotus Pier a lifetime ago before their youthfulness was viciously burned down. As he attempted to do now with Lan Zhan and his remaining family to make up for all those years spent in misunderstanding and hatred.
Imagine his dismayed surprise when he found these sweet little buns strapping on swords and supplies and whatnot and preparing to go… where?
Or, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji take the kids out on a seaside adventure. And they are not the most conventional of baby-sitters. Lots of introspection.

Wei Wuxian glared at those eyes.
They stared back at him sadly.
He glared harder.
The ears drooped.
A pitiful whine echoed through Jingshi. His glare dimmed, in spite of himself. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. This was one of those times when he wished he was as cruel and heartless as the Yiling Patriarch was rumoured to be. But of course, this was going to be another in a long line of events that were triggered by his oh-so-soft heart and instantaneous lack of judgement; though, unlike in most of those cases, he was seriously regretting this decision.
