In which Absolutely none of it goes according to plan, and more or less Kakashi becomes Itachi’s caretaker due to suddenly advancing illness that causes his partner to abandon him quite literally on the teams doorstep. Guts didn’t know what to think of it yet, as he felt the dizzying pull of unconsciousness. He just didn’t know.
He wished he did. He wished Griffith would of said something if he was going to flash that nasty surprise at him last second- maybe they could have talked, and he wouldn’t be bleeding out onto the snow, turning it an awful shade of crimson where it began seeping out from beneath the shadow of his body, thrown wide despite his horizontal position by the angle of the rising sun. He wished he fully believed that it had been a ruse, that Griffith had tricked him and that’s why he lost. He wished he had enough resolve not to come undone by a look that might have told him more in an instant than he’d ever heard from the man at all. He wished that he was stronger. But if anything, the fact he lost just proved how much he wasn’t ready to leave yet - and that he wasn’t worth that kind of look from him.
