Jayce scoffs and lets him go but stays by his side. “You did. You were gonna get scammed. Were you really gonna pay one thousand?”
“I wasn’t - I don’t need you to make yourself part of my business, thank you very much.” He’s tilting his chin up again like he did back in Benzo’s shop, then turns a little to the side to not look him in the eyes. Jayce can still spot the blush. Oh, he really is adorable.---

“Like you’d ever let me.”
Viktor’s eyes narrow.
“Excuse me?”
“You’d never let me,” Jayce says, louder. “Every time I’ve asked to help, you’ve turned me down.”
For a fragile moment, the only sound is the rasp of Viktor’s breathing. He stares at Jayce with palpable anger—that’s what it has to be, the intensity in his eyes—before he seems to catch himself. His breathing changes.
“Ask again,” Viktor says.

“Do that again,” Jayce says, leaning into his grip. “Please.”
Jayce’s throat bobs against Viktor’s fingers when he swallows, still trying to catch his breath, and Viktor watches the movement with a mean glint in his eye.
“Do you truly think you’re in a position to tell me what to do?” Viktor asks, but he doesn’t drop his hand.
Jayce’s face contorts into something entirely new—something Viktor has never had the pleasure of seeing before. Flushed red with embarrassment, eyes wide, and lips bitten red and swollen. He looks desperate.
“After all that,” Viktor continues, thumb fondly stroking over his pulse, “do you think you deserve it?”
“No,” Jayce answers, a little too honest, a little too vulnerable.
Interesting.
“I think,” Viktor starts, leaning in to brush his lips over Jayce’s jaw, a tease of a touch, “you owe me an apology.”
OR: Jayce is acting odd. Viktor is determined to figure out why—for the sake of their work, of course.
