Summary
The first words Caleb Wittebane ever spoke to his brother were a promise: he would be as true a brother to Phillip as any born of the same mother might, and they would be The Brothers Wittebane, and there would be none who could cleave them in two.
The first thing that Phillip Wittebane ever believed was that this was true: that The Brothers Wittebane were one and inseparable - that they were brothers Truer than True.
This, then, is the story of The Brothers Wittebane - promises, and love, and the bright red stain of blood.

“She’s dead. My Luz is dead, and so is everyone else." Her voice rose to a scream, filling the basement, as if to echo through the concrete and up into the tile of the lobby far above. “Are you happy now Odalia?"
Slowly, Alador dragged himself through the debris to where his daughter lay sobbing. This, he thought to himself through the haze of pain, was something in the realm of pure muscle memory. This was not New Bonesborough, in the dark of his ruined laboratory - no, this was a field on the south slope of the Knee, this was the cold of the frozen ground against his hands while he pulled himself towards where the Whispers kid lay, engulfed in vines and half torn apart by thorns, screaming for a medic, their mother, Lieutenant Blight, anyone. It was all his fault. They needed him. Amity needed him. It was all his fault
___________________Like they say on the streets, it's Blight Industries' world and you're lucky to be living in it. But as far as Amity Blight, heir to the Blight fortune, and Alador Blight - chief engineer of Blight Industries and veteran of the Wild Witches Uprising - are concerned, that ended the moment Odalia decided to burn The Owl House to the ground, striking workers and all.

Summary
Being an adult is...hard. Not that Hunter really expected anything else, but dissertations are exhausting, apparently trauma /doesn't/ go away, and sharing an apartment with his sister means spending most mornings watching her lovingly make coffee for her girlfriend while he tries to forget that his last six dates ended in tears. His tears.
In all honesty, most nights still find Hunter staying up way too late, looking out at the lights on the highway and feeling like he'll never get over what his uncle did to him.
This all means that there's usually nothing, not even Professor Lilith Clawthorne’s yappy dog Hootsifer, that can keep Hunter from locking himself in the library and ignoring all his problems - after all, he knows that even Luz must get tired of dealing with his panic attacks and bad dreams and self-doubt, and it's better just to handle it on his own.
But when he stumbles into a coffee shop he's never been to before and meets a roller-derby playing goddess working the evening shift, he starts to think that maybe - just maybe - things could be different from here on out.
