Summary
This story takes place during the moments we're not shown on screen after The Hug in The Lying Detective. I would like to think that something along the lines of what I've written here took place before they went to get Sherlock some birthday cake.

John had regained his breath, and the tears that he’d finally let fall in front of another person began to dry on his cheeks. His nose was red, and his eyes were still full. He sniffed pointedly in that way he has; an attempt to rein in all of the pieces of himself that he’d just let me see. John Watson: Always trying to hold himself together as he was crumbling to bits.

Summary
Usually Sherlock would be the first one to throw himself headfirst into danger, despite knowing that it was a trap. But not this time. This time it was John and it wasn't even on purpose. He had gone to investigate and look for evidence on an apparently abandoned property, reassuring that he didn't need any help for something so frivolous. Well, he had been wrong. Going alone had proven to be a great mistake once again...
