There are times when Noel seems to go intangible. He’ll be standing right there next to Liam and then it’s like all of a sudden he’s fucking gone see-through, even when Liam reaches out and gets a good hold of his jacket or the flesh of his arm; he’s gone away and left a shimmery afterimage, like how lights can get stuck on the backs of eyelids – Liam can blink his eyes around and see Noel, but he’s not really there.

Liam woke up in a bed. Odd. He didn’t remember going to bed, but he must’ve, right. He felt a body next to his own - soft and warm. Debbie must’ve come back, then.
“Alright, love?” Liam said softly, hearing his own voice. It was a bit more high pitched than he remembered it being the night before, lacking the familiar nasal gravelly sound he’d grown accustomed to.
Probably meant nothing, though.

In the elevator, Noel tries to think about what he’ll do when he sees Liam in the hotel bar. He doesn’t quite recall how the fight earlier ended; he can’t guess whether Liam will still be raging or if he’ll be apologetically chummy or if he’ll have gotten pissed enough by now to forget the whole thing. It’ll be easiest if it's the latter, Noel thinks, but his head hurts. He wants Liam to know that. Liam’s the only person in the world – apart from their mam – who gives a shit when Noel is hurt, and Noel hates how Liam can always tell. He doesn’t want Liam to know it hurts, but he wants Liam to know he hurt him. He wants to hurt Liam with the hurt.
