The dragon was testing him. "Right," Harry grunted, pulling himself up a little higher. "Challenge accepted. I can do this."
As if in response, the dragon gave a sharp swoop, sending Harry's stomach plummeting in his chest. For a brief, horrifying moment, it felt like they were diving straight for the ground.
“WHAT THE—?!” Harry yelped. He was pretty sure his heart had just left his body.
Then, with a sudden upward surge, they were soaring again, higher this time, and Harry felt his body squashed against Balerion’s spine as if the dragon had decided to flatten him for fun. He could feel the heat from Balerion’s scales seeping into him, a constant pressure of fire and stone.
After what felt like an eternity, Balerion finally stopped his wild maneuvers. The mental flashes of confusion, amusement, and dominance that Harry had felt before suddenly turned to an image of calmness. The dragon’s wings slowed, and the feeling of unease that had gripped Harry loosened. Harry, clutching whatever he could, shot a glance forward and felt an odd sense of triumph.
Or; Balerion scares elderly people, bites dust again, gets kicked into another universe, causes mayhem, eats people and adopts an orphan

A small fleet of Culture ships arrives in the Warhammer 40k galaxy and tries to overcome Grimdark while dealing with the Outside Context Problem of Chaos.
Hilarity ensues. Including, but not limited to, a Special Circumstances archaeological dig on a Necron tombworld, multi-party future sight gambit pileups, serious upgrades to the Tau, fun with the Dark Eldar, some subtle influence in the IoM, and a hell of a lot of dead Tyranids.
Also includes many fun and exciting alternate endings :).
