Ford Pines has discovered the ruins of some sort of portal deep in the Gravity Falls forest. Based on the markings carved into the stone, it leads to a dimension that Ford had always avoided in his travels. His colleagues in paranormal research called it the Ghostzone. One afternoon, while Ford is working on translating the markings, the portal suddenly comes to life. Nothing comes through, but Ford knows all too well the dangers of an open dimensional portal. So he calls up some friends who are the leading experts on the Ghostzone and the entities that live within. The Fentons. Jack and Maddie are overjoyed at the chance to study an ancient, seemingly stable, manmade ghost portal. They load up the family and head for Gravity Falls for the rest of the summer. Danny somehow convinces his parents to bring Sam and Tucker along so that he won't be bored while they do research all summer.
