The first time Merlin dies, he almost takes Arthur with him.
Leon is the only one who sees it: Arthur’s face, bleak and bloodless; the determined set of his jaw as he sends his men away. His hands are smeared with red, but the way he looks at Merlin it’s like he’s the one dying, his heart’s blood spilling onto the too-hard ground.
