Summary
Jiang Cheng watched Wei Wuxian fall to his death with jiejie’s blood staining his hands.
In retrospect, that was the worst day of his life. Different from the time that his parents were killed. Different from the time that when he woke up, it was to a hollow sensation inside of him where his golden core used to reside. Different from the time that he thought Wei Wuxian might have died, during the long three months of his disappearance.
Different because the two pillars of his life were uprooted and torn away without his permission. At first, Jiang Cheng felt the loss of jiejie more acutely, like a throbbing wound where his heart used to beat. It wasn’t until years later, after the jagged pain of jiejie’s death had dulled into a numb ache, that Jiang Cheng realized the bottomless grief he was experiencing wasn’t just for her.
He missed Wei Wuxian and he hated Wei Wuxian in equal measure.
In which Jiang Cheng learns what it might mean to forgive someone, and how to find peace.
