Seizing the edge of her desk, she righted herself and peered down, gobsmacked, at the shock of pink hair between her knees, the dancing grey eyes, and the wide, crooked smile.
“Have you gone mad?!”
“Shh,” Vi replied, whisper quavering with mirth as she raised a finger to her lips.
“It doesn’t speak to the security of our headquarters— The headquarters *that I run*— If there are people, in broad daylight, crawling inside it!”
“*Relax*, Cupcake. I got past your eagle eye, didn’t I?” Vi reasoned, far too calmly. Without breaking eye contact, she arched a brow as she pressed a persuasive smooch to the inside of Caitlyn’s knee. “And for my next trick, I’m gonna get past your—“
Caitlyn scoffed, exasperated. She wasn’t going to be drawn into the windows-versus-doors talk for the umpteenth time.
“Nevermind the fact that I have an interview in…” She double-checked the clock. “Fifteen minutes… An interview I advise candidates to be five minutes early for!”
Vi leaned back a bit to feign an injured look. “You think you’d last ten minutes in a room with me? You wound me.”

“A proper little shit,” she doubled down as she struggled playfully.
“Fight me, Cupcake.” Vi brought her face almost nose to nose with her, throwing down the gauntlet. “You can squirm as hard as you want, but I won’t stop unless you say ‘halt’.”
Caitlyn lashes flashed up as she did an excited little inhale that was illegally hot for an officer of the law.
