Summary
“I want you to teach me how to read.” Nell said. She was leaning on the door frame, a bottle with the final dregs of brandy in one hand. The room was dark and cramped, and bare except for the bed, a small table, and the rather large ornate wardrobe Charles had insisted on taking. He looked up at her for a moment, before meticulously placing a bookmark, shutting his book, and placing it on his bedside table. He sat up straight and drew his legs in so he was sitting cross-legged on his bed.

The day the leaves began to change was always Sam’s favourite day. The first hint of fall. Before he knew it, the air would be cool and crisp and the days would be getting shorter. The mountain tops would be covered with dustings of snow and the trails would be icy for his early morning runs. There was no better feeling than the feeling of fall, so he’d naturally shared his excitement with Toby when they’d spoken later that day. With wonder in his eyes and joy in his heart, he’d spoken at length about his love for the season.
