    Summary

Javert found he did not find grey to be as comforting a colour as black or white. Black and white: that is how he saw things. All his life, there had not been much thought spared to the shades in between. Man was either good or evil, an upholder of the law or a defier of it. If one strayed from the Lord's path, he could not be reconciled, not in the eyes of the law. Indeed, that is what Inspector Javert had long believed.

But the river looked grey. Jean Valjean, a convict, had saved his life. Things were not so clear now.

    ---

When Javert falls, Valjean is there to catch him. The unlikely friendship that follows proves strong enough to save them both. But another's love is a difficult thing to accept when one has lived his whole life without it.

    Summary

Around 1802-1803, Beethoven wrote his 3rd symphony in the hope of drawing the attention of a man he idolised at the time as a figurehead of the French Revolution: the young First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte.
Beethoven never actually sent his symphony to Bonaparte and never went to Paris, because Napoleon crowned himself emperor before the symphony was completed, betraying Beethoven's ideals of equality for mankind.

Now, what if Beethoven had finished the symphony in time to send it to Bonaparte long before the crowning?
What if he had been invited to Paris to be offered the position he dreamed of?
What if he had met, in fact, that man he considered to be the egery of a new era?

What would have happened between them in those short months between their meeting and the Sacre, in 1804?

(Beethoven would beat me to a pulp for this, but fortunately for me he doesn't read French. Also he's dead. Pfew.)

    Summary

He should have known that not even in death, he would be free of Jean Valjean.
With nothing but his right to die left to be stripped of him, he should have expected that Valjean would deny him even this.

Or: Valjean takes Javert home after he jumps into the Seine.
