This idea came to me and I just had to write it down. This fic is a total AU, so I took some artistic liberties.

Summary: Seven years ago, Michaela Quinn moved out west to a town called Colorado Springs to practice medicine. Her first patient was a young, very pregnant, unmarried woman named Abagail Bray. Abagail was different than other women that Michaela knew, she had no interest in becoming a mother. She made a deal with her former lover and father of the child that she would give him the baby in exchange for a rail ticket to New York. Two weeks before she was to give birth, Abagail received word that the father-to-be was caught in an avalanche at Pike's Peak and was now presumed dead. Abagail already had the rail ticket in hand and decided that she would simply leave the baby on a church doorstep and be on her way. Michaela couldn't live that and offered to adopt the baby when it was born. Abagail agreed and signed over her parental rights to Michaela. Now Abagail is back and challenging Michaela for custody. Little did she know, everything in Michaela's life had changed since the day she adopted that baby. She wasn't about to give her up without a fight.
