Twenty years later, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji travel back in time to prevent a hybrid volcanic eruption-zombie apocalypse. Lan SiZhui hands him a bowl of bright red-orange noodles. "Your spicy, sir," he says cheerfully.
Wei WuXian sniffs it and his eyes immediately start watering. "Oh, you're my new favorite person," he tells Lan SiZhui. "Sorry Lan Zhan."
"I thought the rabbits were your best friends," Lan WangJi says mildly.
"They're all tied," Wei WuXian decides. "Anyway, they're my best friends. You were my favorite person. There's a difference. No matter now, you've been eclipsed. Hey, SiZhui, I'm your dad now."
Lan SiZhui laughs with pleased embarrassment. "Ahah, I figured it was going to happen someday," he says. Wei WuXian isn't sure what he means by that.

Summary
Returning to Gusu after a year apart, Wei Ying is a man on a mission: to seduce Lan Zhan, confess his feelings and hopefully live blissfully Hanguang-done ever after. Unbeknownst to him, Lan Wangji is also a man on a mission: to be selfish and follow his heart, to seduce Wei Ying, propose his intentions and hopefully live joyfully (and slightly exasperated) ever after.

Lan Wangji, generally speaking, did not make note of people. Of course there were exceptions, once faced with special kindness or distaste, but most often others left an imprint so light that it would fade from his mind in only a few days, if not minutes.
He didn’t feel right in his skin for the rest of the day after meeting Wei Wuxian.

This Lan Zhan has a set jaw and a steely look in his eye, ready to fight anyone who gets in Wei Wuxian's way. This Lan Zhan puts up no fronts - it almost hurts to look at him, he's so open.
Wei Wuxian looks at this Lan Zhan, and he wonders.
