There's a young teenager, a boy, on the gambling table. He's thin and frail. Thick heavy shackles wrapped around his wrists and ankles. The thin sheet is all that is wrapped around him, dirty with suspicious reddish brown spots. His skin is so pale, he looks like a ghost. And those eyes shine like gemstones, empty and cold, like all hope has been lost.
His owner puts him up to bid with such arrogance.

Sunday leaves the party car to the sound of raucous laughter. Game nights have been commonplace for as long as he’s accompanied the Express members on their journey, and like a destiny he has no power to resist, they’ve folded him into them with little trouble. It’s… nice, if not sometimes overwhelming. He’s not used to it.
He steps into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. It will be fine. He just needs a minute to compose himself.

"I understand brother." Robin answers softly as the thing wearing her brother's face calmly turns around and heads towards the door. Barely giving a second glance to Mister Gallagher who leans on the corner of the far walls, away from the two siblings.
The door finally closes and Robin exhales in relief. While Mister Gallagher snuffs out his cigarette, shoulders far more lax than when Sunday was in the room with them.
Robin turns to the closet inside the room. "He's gone, brother. You can come out."

Summary
A little strand of doubt curled around Aventurine’s mind as he mulled it over. Sunday cared a lot less than Aventurine had initially thought. Other things were more important to him than love, and maybe that was why he was sitting in jail instead of hunting for antiques with his boyfriend at the spate of garage sales planned for this weekend.
Sunday did not love him, not the way Aventurine had believed he did. So why did Aventurine care so much at hearing that Sunday’s life was essentially over?
Or: Sunday stands trial for murder but won’t testify in his own defense. Robin is determined to find out why, and who the real killer is. Aventurine just wants everything to go back to the way it was before.

Sunday felt himself regain awareness of his surroundings. It was odd to awaken on his own terms. He hadn’t been allowed to awaken naturally in years. When he was younger, the elder members of the family would awaken him and his sister to attend their morning lessons and in his adulthood he had always set strict alarms and allowed himself no more than 3 hours of rest each night. The warmth he felt from sleeping uninterrupted for so long was something he had long forgotten. Shuffling his body towards the left side of the bed, Sunday felt something solid block his path off the bed.

The inside of the Astral Express is warm, cozy, done in a style he's heard was touted for its modernity an Aeon's lifetime ago. The entire crew is present: Dan Heng all the way in the back, March 7th, springing up from her seat beside Stelle, Mr. Welt, serving as a barrier between him and the younger members, and Ms. Himeko, taking a step forward to capture his attention.
“Mr. Sunday,” she says, diplomacy wrapped tightly around her voice. “Welcome aboard the Astral Express.”
“A pleasure,” he responds, fully intending to match her honeyed word for honeyed word. “I suppose this arrangement is your doing?”
“A joint effort,” she smiles. “As partial shareholders in Penacony, we've been working with both the Family and the IPC to ensure its smooth management. We've agreed to take you on.”Sunday is transferred into the Astral Express' custody. He assumes he's changing wardens. The crew is determined to be much more than just that.
