“I heard about the dragons.” Damen throws a sharp glance at Nikandros. “But honestly? I thought it was just people talking. Fantasies coming back to life, together with the Lost Prince.”
When Damen looks down, Herode is smiling at him.
“Oh, those dragons are most certainly a fantasy come to life.”
“So are they real or not?” Asks Nikandros, impatiently and Damen is about to chastises him for the brisk tone, when something absolutely massive swoops down, moving the air with such force that both Damen and Nikandros end up on the ground, snow whipping around them as if they were in a snowstorm.
“What In the-“ snaps Nikandros once the wind seems to settle and they can look up, but the words seem to die in his mouth the moment they lay eyes on… wings.
Huge, green, leathery wings, moving through the air with powerful strokes and bringing a massive lizard-like body with them.
A dragon.

“It is true, then.” He says, throat dry and voice shaking. “Dragons live again.”

“Mr. Talis, bored already?” Viktor asked, his tone dry but laced with the faintest trace of amusement.
Jayce grabbed a chair from the back with an ear-splitting scrape of metal on tile, the sound grating against Viktor’s nerves. Viktor visibly flinched, cringing at the noise. The class burst into laughter at the reaction, while Jayce offered a sheepish grin, clearly unapologetic. He flopped into the chair, sprawling in a lazy posture that made it seem like he belonged here.
“Had a free period,” Jayce said with a shrug, his voice light and breezy. He propped his head on his hand, his grin widening. “And I’m always fascinated by science.”--

Damen steals Nikandros' thunder.
"I’m going to ride home tomorrow and begin preparations to ask for her hand,” Nikandros says, and Laurent smiles wider and says, “Oh, wonderful,” as Damen leaps to his feet with a thundering crash of chair against flagstone.
“Nikandros!” he shouts, papers flying, arms wide, “This— amazing! She sounds amazing! Congratulations!”

Laurent was looking at him, eyes bright. Damen made the gesture Kashel had shown him, touching the tips of his fingers to his lower lip, his hand gently cupped, then pulling them away.
Laurent’s eyes grew noticeably brighter.
